Please Pray for our Dear Friend and Minisrty Partner!

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and thank you for praying.

So let me give you an update on what’s happening.  I thought we would have more time, but the latest is, on the afternoon of Monday, June 28th, I’ll be undergoing surgery to remove my breast.  Of course, they will take a sample of my lymph nodes and, after tests are run, we will know the stage of the cancer.  So I think you now know how to pray, right?!  Of course we will be posting all the latest updates on our website.  Oh, by the way, I did a video which I hope you’ll have a chance to watch sometime today  – and tell others about it, too.  Because it will not do to say that God only “uses” our cancer but does not design it.  What God permits, He permits for a reason.  And that reason is His design.  Also, our culture idolizes youth and health and energy; it tries to hide any signs of weakness or imperfection.  But we can bring a huge blessing to others by living openly and believingly and lovingly within our weaknesses.  And for every one sentence I say about my cancer, I want to say at least ten sentences about the goodness of God.  And, friend, whatever affliction you might be facing today, I would encourage you to do the same.

Of course, I believe that God can and does heal and I covet your prayers to that end. Most of all, please pray that God will pour out grace-upon-grace on Ken and me. We’ll be posting regular updates on “Joni’s Corner” here on our website – also posted here you will find an article called “Don’t Waste Your Cancer” by John Piper and David Powlison, both of whom are cancer survivors. I can’t begin to describe how encouraged I’ve been just reading their insights – I’m sure you’ll say the same after you read it. We join you in resting in the assurance of Psalm 62:5-6, “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”

Yours in His sovereign care,
