Facts and Figures: (source: UN AIDS agency)

• Every 14 seconds a child is orphaned by AIDS.
• An estimated 33.3 million people worldwide had HIV in 2009, up from 26.2 million in 1999.
• 1.8 million, or almost 5,000 people per day. people died directly and indirectly from AIDS in 2009.
• In 2009, 2.6 million people globally became newly infected with HIV,
• Around 370,000 children were born with HIV in 2009, bringing to 2.5 million the total number of children under 15 living with HIV.

Why is HIV/AIDS so devastating to the poor?

Several factors multiply the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS in developing countries:

• Lack of prevention education
• High cost of treatment
• Other factors of poverty (poor health facilities, communication and transportation difficulties and unstable governments)

What can I do?  You can…. Take Action  (Be the Hands and Feet of Christ)

• Talk about AIDS to those around you and bring the light of Christ into a subject that has been long ignored and misunderstood by many of us.
• Get the facts about AIDS and how the church can respond in the love of Christ.  Compassion has more resources for further education available by CLICKING HERE.

Pray…

• For those who are dealing with the deadly disease, especially the most innocent victims:  the children.
• For the missionaries, doctors and scientists who serve those with AIDS, treat those infected with the virus, and search for a cure.
• For the church of Jesus Christ, that it would rise up and take leadership in reaching out in love to those who are affected and infected with the virus.
• For organizations like Compassion that are on the front lines of helping children and their families in Africa and around the world who are at risk or are already infected.  Pray that God would provide resources for us to do even more to help and heal in Jesus’ name.

Thank You Lord for another day! It’s SYATP day… Lord bless all the students praying for their schools today!
More than three million students across the nation and overseas are expected to gather at their schools today and PRAY.

This year’s theme for SYATP, “REVEAL,” draws from Matthew 6:9-13, commonly referred to as the Lord’s Prayer.

The Prayer rallies took place at most schools at 7 a.m., before classes began.

Here is what one student wrote………

I am a Freshman in highschool and SOOO scared to do this… keep thinking what others will think. And my school knows NOTHING about see you at the pole so I will prob be the only one there. BUT I’m trusting God! And even if I am the only one there… I will never be alone! So God please help me and lead the path for me to follow. If I deny you you will deny me infront of your father… so lets do this! One of the very few steps to build a relationship… even if it means starting a war! Watch out Devil! Cause with God leading me… Tori is coming to hunt you down! Oh my… suddenly less scared. Haha!

I went. 3 of my friends got saved!!!! God is so awesome!!!!
