- Every 14 seconds a child is orphaned by AIDS.
- An estimated 33.3 million people worldwide had HIV in 2009, up from 26.2 million in 1999.
- 1.8 million, or almost 5,000 people per day. people died directly and indirectly from AIDS in 2009.
- In 2009, 2.6 million people globally became newly infected with HIV,
- Around 370,000 children were born with HIV in 2009, bringing to 2.5 million the total number of children under 15 living with HIV.
Why is HIV/AIDS so devastating to the poor?
Several factors multiply the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS in developing countries:
- Lack of prevention education
- High cost of treatment
- Other factors of poverty (poor health facilities, communication and transportation difficulties and unstable governments)

- Talk about AIDS to those around you and bring the light of Christ into a subject that has been long ignored and misunderstood by many of us.

Pray…
- For those who are dealing with the deadly disease, especially the most innocent victims: the children.
- For the missionaries, doctors and scientists who serve those with AIDS, treat those infected with the virus, and search for a cure.
- For the church of Jesus Christ, that it would rise up and take leadership in reaching out in love to those who are affected and infected with the virus.
- For organizations like Compassion that are on the front lines of helping children and their families in Africa and around the world who are at risk or are already infected. Pray that God would provide resources for us to do even more to help and heal in Jesus’ name.
